The Modena Football Club 2018 is an Italian football club in Modena . Most recently, the club played in the Lega Pro , the third Italian division.
history
Beginnings
In 1908 the first two football teams were founded in the northern Italian city of Modena , a student club and an adult club. In 1912 it was decided to merge both clubs to form FC Modena . At the first club meeting, the club colors were set to yellow and blue.
The first big success of FC Modena was winning the regional cup competition, the Coppa Emilia 1916/17. Modena achieved its first major success in the championship in the 1924/25 season when they finished second in Girona A of the Prima Divisione , the first Italian league at the time, with one point behind CFC Genoa in 1893 and thus the knockout games narrowly missed the Italian championship, which was finally won by FC Bologna that year . The following year, the club finished third, first in Girona A, defending champions Bologna FC ahead of Turin FC . In the end, Juventus Turin was able to secure the championship. FC Modena stayed in the first division until 1931, before relegation to Serie B for the first time .
In 1938, the FC Modena rose along with Novara in the Serie A on. The team was only able to stay there for a year before they had to start again in the second division. Until the forced break caused by the Second World War , which had now spread to the whole world and in which Italy was also involved on the side of Hitler Germany and thus no game operation was possible, FC Modena acted as the "elevator team" between Serie A and Serie B.
Permanent second class
After the end of the Second World War, gaming was also resumed in Italy . In the 1945/46 season, Modena FC was able to qualify for Serie A 1946/47 in a qualifying round, which all teams played in the first or second class before the war , where the club ended up third behind the duo FC Turin and Juventus Turin occupied. In the following year, place 5 was reached. The club, which briefly changed its name to GS Modena during the war , but took on its original name again after the end of the conflict, was only 19th the following year and had to relegate to the second division. It followed for a long time in Serie B , which dragged on for around thirty years with few ascents and relegations.
After a temporary relegation to Serie C , the club started a march through to Serie A in the early 1960s . After being promoted to Serie B together with AS Lucchese Libertas and Cosenza Calcio in 1961, Modena immediately took third place behind CFC Genoa and SSC Napoli , which meant promotion to Serie A for the first time in almost 15 years. There followed after rank 11 in the next year, relegation as third from bottom of the table together with SPAL Ferrara and AS Bari . A long time in the second division followed again, which was only interrupted by the intermittent crashes in Series C from 1972 to 1975 and from 1978 to 1990.
Development since 1994
In 1994 FC Modena rose again to Serie C1, today's Lega Pro Prima Divisione , after having returned from this league four years earlier. In 2000 FC Modena began to flourish. First came first place in the Girona A of Serie C1 in the 2000/01 season before Como Calcio and the associated promotion to Serie B together with US Palermo , Como Calcio and ACR Messina . Modena also won the Supercoppa di Lega di Prima Divisione against US Palermo this year . After being promoted to Serie B, Modena immediately played at the top of the Italian second division. With second place behind Como Calcio, which also carried out a walk-through, and in front of Reggina Calcio and FC Empoli , which also rose, FC Modena was able to rise again to Serie A. After two years the relegation to Serie B followed, in which one has played since then. 2006 Modena's renewed promotion failed just barely in the play-offs against AC Mantova . The association was dissolved in November 2017 and re-established in 2018.
