Giuseppe Pancaro (born August 26, 1971 in Cosenza ) is a former Italian football player and current coach. He played in the position of defender .
Player career
Pancaro began his professional career at Torino Calcio , but did not play in the A selection here. For the 1991/92 season he moved on loan to Avezzano Calcio in the C2 series .
In 1992 Pancaro moved to Serie A for the first time at Cagliari Calcio . He stayed in Sardinia for a total of five seasons before moving to Lazio for the 1997/98 season. Here he was in the starting line-up straight away and in his first year he was able to celebrate his first title with the Coppa Italia . In the following seasons Pancaro was in the starting line-up of the most successful Lazio selection of all time. They won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Supercup in the 1998/99 season . The following year they won the Italian Super Cup , then the double with the second Scudetto in the history of Lazios and another triumph in the Coppa Italia. In 2000 they won the Italian Super Cup again, but the most successful years were over as many top performers had left the club.
Giuseppe Pancaro remained loyal to Lazio and stayed in Rome until he moved to Milan top club AC Milan in 2003 in exchange with Demetrio Albertini , who won the Champions League in May of that year . However, Pancaro was never really able to assert himself against the huge competition in Milan and thus did not get beyond the role as a supplementary player. Highlights of his time with Milan were winning the Scudetto in the 2003/04 season and making it to the 2004/05 Champions League final.
After two years in Milan , Giuseppe Pancaro moved to league rivals Fiorentina for the 2005/06 season . Although Pancaro was used regularly in Florence, he did not make it into the starting eleven. The last season of his career, 2006/07, he played with FC Turin .
For the Italian national team he played his first game on April 28, 1999 against Croatia (0-0). He played a total of 19 games for Italy from 1999 to 2005.
Coaching career
After serving as assistant coach at FC Modena under Dario Marcolin from 2012 to 2013 , Giuseppe Pancaro took over the position of head coach at the second division relegated SS Juve Stabia from Piero Braglia in the summer of 2014 .
