The Società Sportiva Juve Stabia is an Italian football club from Castellammare di Stabia , a port city on the Gulf of Naples . The club was founded in 1907 and plays its home games at the Stadio Romeo Menti . Juve Stabia is currently playing in Serie B , the second Italian division.

history

On March 19, 1907 , some men got together in Castellammare di Stabia , a town in the Gulf of Naples , and decided to found an association. They gave it the name Stabia Sporting Club . At that time the club still housed the fencing , sailing , athletics , swimming and rowing departments ; soccer was not yet one of the practiced areas. The football division of Stabia Sporting Club was not established until 1911. The club's football team made their first game in the same year against a team from Torre Annunziata , with Stabia winning 3-0. At that time they were still playing on a sports field in the nearby village of Boscotrecase . The current venue, the Stadio Romeo Menti, was only built in 1984. Previously, the club played in another stadium built in 1911 in Castellammare di Stabia. An international match took place in this stadium in 1914, in which Italy lost 1:11 to England .

Stabia Sporting Club took part in the game for the first time in 1916. The Italian Football Association classified the club in the third-class Terza Categoria, where in the first year promotion to the second division was only just missed. A year later this succeeded and again only a short time later Stabia Sporting Club even made the jump into the Prima Divisione, which was the first Italian league at the time. With the abolition of the Prima Divisione as the highest league in 1926, the sporting decline of the Stabia Sporting Club began. After many years in the Prima Divisione one was classified in the Seconde Divisione, which meant relegation to the fourth division through the establishment of Serie A and Serie B. A little later it went further downhill and Stabia only played in one regional division. In 1931 they were promoted to the Prima Divisione again, now the third Italian division. A little later, the club changed its name and was henceforth AC Stabia. In the following years the club changed constantly between the third and fourth league, so the series C, which was introduced in 1937, and the IV series. The club briefly played in the second-rate Serie B in the 1951/52 season. Currently, Juve Stabia, as the club has been called since 2003, plays in Serie B. Before being promoted from the Lega Pro Prima Divisione (the former Serie C1) in the For years, Juve Stabia shuttled between Serie B, Serie C / C1 and Serie D for the 2010/11 season .

Under coach Piero Braglia , Juve Stabia managed a very good second division season as a climber, which they finished in ninth place in the table and was closer to the promotion than relegation regions. At times one was even to be regarded as a serious contender for the playoff places. The 2012/13 season was not quite as successful, however , when they finally ended up in 16th place in the table, but still achieved the season goal relegation relatively safely. In the 2013/14 season , the relegation followed as 22 and last, 9 points behind the 21st Reggina Calcio .
