The association was founded on March 9, 1902 and dissolved on June 12, 2018. history

After the club was founded on March 9, 1902, Vicenza Calcio took part in the Italian championship for the first time in 1910/11 and was able to reach the final straight away by taking first place in the preliminary round group of Veneto-Emilia-Romagna, where it was 0 : 3 and 1: 2 against the SG Pro Vercelli set a defeat. In the following years the position as one of the best teams from the Emilia-Romagna region could be confirmed. But after the First World War and the associated failure of gaming operations, Vicenza slipped into lower leagues. In 1933 abolished then at least the jump to the second division, the series B . It wasn't until 1942 that the leap into the top division, Serie A, was made . There they could just about secure relegation when they won 6-2 at Juventus Turin on the last match day .

After the Second World War, Vicenza Calcio stabilized in the middle of the table and finished sixth in 1947. But already in 1947/48 you had to accept relegation to Serie B and remained knocked off penultimate in the championship. Due to financial problems, the name of the woolen goods company Lanerossi was adopted in the 1950s and was henceforth called Lanerossi Vicenza . In 1955 they were promoted to Serie A again, after which the club played continuously in the top Italian division until 1975. In the seasons 1963/64 and 1965/66 achieved the best placement of this time with the sixth place. With the Brazilian Luís Vinício they even put the top scorer in Serie A in 1966. In the remaining seasons Vicenza fought mostly against relegation. In 1975 three points were missing to avert this. After relegation Vicenza won the Serie B championship in 1977 and in the following season 1977/78 the club under President Giuseppe Farina was surprisingly Italian runner-up with top scorer Paolo Rossi (24 goals). The striker had come from Juventus for the then record transfer fee of 2.6 billion lire. Due to the worse goal difference compared to FC Bologna , they rose again in the following season. Shortly afterwards you even crashed into the third class.

In the 1980s, the future world star Roberto Baggio played for Vicenza. With him, the jump back to Serie B succeeded in 1985. There they took third place and thus a promotion place for Serie A; however, they were involved in a scandal about postponed games and therefore even had to be relegated to Serie C. After Vicenza had resumed its original name in 1990, it was promoted back to Serie B in 1992/93. Two years later, coach Francesco Guidolin also returned to Serie A. Under him, Vicenza Calcio achieved the greatest success in the club's history in 1997, when you could win the Coppa Italia . In the final they lost 1-0 at SSC Napoli , but in the second leg Vicenza won 3-0 after extra time and won their only title so far. In the next season they reached the semi-finals in the European Cup Winners' Cup , where they were eliminated against Chelsea .

In 1998/99, however, Vicenza was relegated to Serie B again, but managed to get back up straight away, but in 2001 it went back to the second division. In 2006, the club then lost the relegation play-offs and rose to Serie C in sporting terms . But they benefited from the forced relegation of the competitors CFC Genua and Perugia Calcio and were allowed to stay in the second division, where they still play today. In 2011/12, the club benefited again and did not rise again due to the forced relegation of US Lecce despite losing the relegation play-off. The following year, at the end of the season, they were again in 19th place in the table, but this time they had to move into the third division because the gap to 18th place in the table, filled by Virtus Lanciano , was six points and thus playout games were omitted. In June 2018 they merged with the Bassano Virtus to form the LR Vicenza Virtus.
