The Reggio Audace Football Club is an Italian football club from Reggio nell'Emilia in Emilia-Romagna . The men's team played three seasons in Serie A as AC Reggiana . As a result of two bankruptcies, the club was dissolved in 2005 and 2018 and then re-established - initially as Reggio Emilia FC (shortly thereafter renamed AC Reggiana 1919 ) and most recently as Reggio Audace FC .
history
The association was founded in 1919 as the Associazione Calcio Reggiana . In the early years, the team was represented in the regional championship of Emilia-Romagna, but missed the qualification for the newly introduced Serie A in 1929 and had to compete in Serie B. For years the club played in Serie B and C , before being promoted to Serie A for the first time in 1993.
The 13th place in the table in the 1993/94 season is the best result in the club's history. In the following season, the club rose as the penultimate with only 18 points back from Serie B. With 61 points succeeded as third in Serie B under coach Carlo Ancelotti , who was then poached by AC Parma , the direct rise. However, the team was knocked off last in the 1996/97 season with only two wins of the season.
In 1999, the AC Reggiana had to relegate to Serie C1, the direct transfer to Serie C2 was barely prevented in the following season. 2001 and 2002, the club had to compete in the relegation games, but was able to prevail and receive the class. In 2005, the team qualified for the promotion games to Serie B, but failed at the US Avellino with a 1-2 defeat and a 2-2 draw in the second leg.
Because of the poor financial situation, the AC Reggiana was revoked in summer 2005 the license. The club then disbanded and was re-established as Reggio Emilia Football Club . Shortly after the start of the series C2, the club received its current name.
