Sunday Oliseh (born September 14, 1974 in Abavo ) is a former Nigerian football player and current coach .
Player career
society
At the age of 15, Oliseh went to Belgium to join FC Liège . In 1994 he moved to Italy for AC Reggiana . A year later, the then coach of 1. FC Cologne , Morten Olsen , brought him into the Bundesliga, where he became the leading player in the Cologne team. In 1997, Olsen brought the midfielder to the Netherlands to coach Ajax Amsterdam , where he had the most successful period of his career. In 1999 he moved to the Italian club Juventus Turin . There he could not prevail and came back to the Bundesliga, this time to Borussia Dortmund .
After several injuries had thrown him back, he was loaned to VfL Bochum in 2002/03 . There he broke the nose of his teammate Vahid Hashemian in 2004 after a Bundesliga match against Hansa Rostock . Allegedly, Hashemian insulted him racially on the square, which is why he felt “defeated”. Oliseh later said: "In almost 15 years as a professional that has never happened to me with a teammate, it's normal for the opponents and I don't care." Haschemian denied the insults and Oliseh had to leave the club.
After another season for Borussia Dortmund , Oliseh moved in 2005 to the Belgian club KRC Genk , where he was used in only one league game. On January 23, 2006, he dissolved his contract there with immediate effect, after he had played for the club two days earlier.
National team
Oliseh played 54 games for the Nigerian national team and was captain during his time at Ajax Amsterdam . He participated in two world championships and in 1996 won the gold medal with the Nigerian team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta .
After his active career, he worked for a few months as a sports coordinator for the second division KAS Eupen .
Coaching
In July 2015, Oliseh became the new national coach of the Nigerian national team. He succeeded Stephen Keshi , who had been fired for breach of contract. On February 26, 2016, Oliseh announced via Twitter that, among other things, he had resigned as a national coach due to contractual violations and a lack of salary payments.
On December 27, 2016 it was announced that Oliseh had signed a contract as head coach with the Dutch second division club Fortuna Sittard until the end of June 2018.
The management of Fortuna Sittard dismissed Oliseh as head coach on February 14, 2018 due to "unreasonable actions" away from the club.
