The RFC Liege , and RFC Liège , FC Liege , Club Luik (in Dutch ) is a Belgian football club from the city of Liege . He currently plays in the third division. The club is perhaps best known for refusing to sell Jean-Marc Bosman after his contract ended in 1990, which led to the Bosman decision , a ruling by the European Court of Justice that brought about a major structural change in European football.

The club was founded in 1892 as FC Liège and became a member of the Belgian Football Association when it was founded in 1895. The club is the first Belgian champion (1896). In 1920 the prefix Royal was added to the club name after the club had already won three championships. In 1952 and 1953 the RFC Liège won two more championships and at that time was the only team that could keep up with the undisputed supremacy of RSC Anderlecht . Between 1965 and 1985, the results were mostly poor and the club survived on the help of its old tradition: young players from their own club and loyal supporters.
Towards the end of the 1980s, the RFC Liège played on an international level (particularly against Benfica Lisbon , Juventus Turin , Rapid Vienna , Hibernian Edinburgh , Werder Bremen and Athletic Bilbao ) and also won the Belgian Cup in 1990 . After that, bankruptcy was inevitable, the stadium was sold and demolished to build a cinema. The association joined the RFC Tilleur-Saint-Nicolas (a Liège suburban association) in 1995 to create the RFC Tilleur Liège.
The club rose from the First Division (to which he belonged since 1945) to the third division. The word Tilleur was finally deleted from the club name in 2000. Since 1995 the club has been switching between the second and fourth leagues and in 1996 won the third division championship title. In 2008 RFC Liège was last champion of the third division and rose to the second division, from which they were relegated after two seasons. After another relegation to the fourth-class national D, they became champions in the 2014/15 season and rose again to the third division. For the 2015/16 season, the club moved to the new stadium " Stade Rue de la Tonne ", which is located in the original Rocourt district, where the club was founded in 1892.
After another relegation to League Four, they were able to celebrate their return to the third-class Division 1 Amateur in 2018 . The team has been coached by Dante Brogno since 2016 .
