Koninklijke Voetbal Klub Tienen ( French KVK Tirlemont ) is a Belgian football club from Tienen .

history

On May 28, 1921 the Racing Club Tirlemont was founded, which joined the Belgian Football Association in August of the same year . In 1931 the club rose to the second division. In 1934 the club was runner-up behind White Star AC, three points behind . In the following season the promotion was just missed, this time in second behind RSC Anderlecht . After a fifth place in 1936, he was promoted to the first division in 1937 as a second division champion . With only five wins, however, RC Tienen finished last and had to relegate again. With five points behind second division champions Tilleur FC , the direct return as third in the table was missed. However, due to the war , national gaming operations were discontinued.

On June 22, 1941, the local rival Vlug En Vrij Wommersom was established , which renamed itself several times after the end of the war. From 1945 the club was initially called Voorwaarts Wommersom , from June 1946 Voetbalvereniging Voorwarts , before the club was called Voorwaarts Tienen from August 1947 .

On May 16, 1951, RC Tirlemont received the attribute "royal" and was henceforth called Royal Racing Club Tirlemont . Until 1957 he still played in the second division, then rose as the table penultimate. Local rivals Voorwaarts played in parallel in the third division, from which he was relegated in 1959. 1963 to 1965 and 1966/67 he was able to return to the third division. 1967/68 RRC Tirlemont was able to return to the second division for one season, but was only last there. In 1970 the club even went down to fourth class. From 1973 the club used the Flemish place name in the club name and was thus called Royal Racing Club Tienen . 1975 the return to the third division could be celebrated. In 1978, five points were missing from promoted KFC Turnhout for the return to the second division. In the following years, the team again occupied only places in the midfield. In 1981 RRC Tienen and Voorwaarts Tienen merged to form the Koninklijke Voetbal Klub Tienen .

In 1985 the united club was able to play up front again, but in the end only came third behind KFC Verbroedering Geel and FC Assent . In the following season, the team narrowly escaped relegation, but earned a sixth place in 1987 and a third place in 1988. In 1990 two points were missing from champions KFC Turnhout, the following year they were even tied with RFC Sérésien .

In 1993, the KVK Tienen managed only six wins, and so the club had to relegate to the fourth division. 1995 succeeded in rising again. After a fourth place in 1998 with four points behind the promoted KFC Herentals succeeded in the following season as champions, the return to the second division. Two points ahead of KV Kortrijk , who occupied the relegation place, were enough to keep the league. In 2000 it was only one point ahead of KMSK Deinze . In 2001 the club was penultimate, but because of several mergers, they stayed in the second division. After a 14th place in 2002, Tienen managed only six wins in the following season and had to relegate together with FC Denderleeuw .

In the first season in the third division, the team finished eighth in the table. In the 2005/06 season she was twelve points ahead of Royal Francs Borains third division champion and managed to return to the second division. At the end of the 2011/12 season, however, they were relegated third from bottom.
