Thijs Libregts (born January 4, 1941 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player and football coach .

Career as a player

Libregt's first post as a professional was Excelsior Rotterdam , where he played from 1958 to 1962. He then moved to the larger Rotterdam club Feyenoord , which he stayed with until 1968. Finally, he returned to his home club Excelsior, where he played until 1972 and then ended his career.

Career as a coach

Libregt's first coaching station was Excelsior Rotterdam, where he trained from 1975 to 1980. He then moved to PSV Eindhoven , which he looked after until the 1982/83 season. He then moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he was champion and cup winner in the 1983/84 season. In November 1984 he moved to Greece to Aris Saloniki , where he stayed until 1986. His next club was in the 1986/87 season PAOK Saloniki , where he only stayed until December 1987. After a brief stop at Olympiacos , he returned to the Netherlands in 1988 and took over the Dutch national team , which he was in charge of from 1988 to 1989. With this team he survived unbeaten qualification for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. In early 1990, however, he was replaced by Leo Beenhakker , who then coached the team at the finals.

Since he had made a name for himself at PAOK Saloniki in Greece, he came back to Greece. From 1991 to 1994 he was a coach at Iraklis Saloniki and from 1994 to 1995 coach at Olympiacos Piraeus . After he was released at Piraeus , his path led to the "Super Eagles" in Nigeria .

From August 1998 to October 1999 he worked with the national team of Nigeria . After being without a club for 2 years, he took over the Grazer AK in October 2001 , which he looked after until August 2002 and led to a cup victory and victory in the Supercup . In August he was replaced by Walter Schachner . He has not looked after a team since then.
