Johannes Hermanus Hendrikus "Jan" Zwartkruis (born February 18, 1926 in Elst ; † March 7, 2013 in Soesterberg ) was a Dutch football coach .

Career

Zwartkruis coached the Netherlands twice. In 1976 he took over the post from George Knobel for a year before he was replaced by the Austrian Ernst Happel before the 1978 World Cup . After the 1978 World Cup, Zwartkruis was again coach of the Netherlands and thus the successor to his successor. Zwartkruis was responsible for the 1980 European Football Championship company . He was able to prevail as group winner in the qualification, with only one defeat against Poland . At the EM, however, things didn't go as well as in the qualification. After a defeat against Germany and a draw against Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands retired as third party in the preliminary round, only the game against Greece could be won. At the end of 1980 / beginning of 1981 the Netherlands took part in the Mundialito in Uruguay. Here you only took part in the group games and were eliminated from the small tournament in the preliminary round. In total, Zwartkruis coached the Dutch 28 times at international matches. In 1981, Zwartkruis was replaced by Rob Baan and did not appear on the scene until qualifying for the 1994 World Cup . Zwartkruis took over the coaching position of the Netherlands Antilles for the first attempt to qualify for a World Cup, but it was already over after the first qualifying round. The Netherlands Antilles lost 4-1 to Antigua and Barbuda overall .
