Elst is a district of the Dutch municipality of Overbetuwe in the province of Gelderland and has around 21,905 inhabitants. Until the end of 2000 Elst was an independent municipality, which merged on January 1, 2001 with the surrounding municipalities of Valburg and Heteren .

Elst lies exactly between Arnhem and Nijmegen , which are connected by the A 325. Furthermore, the A 15 and A 50 can be reached via a direct connection with the A 325. The Elst Station provides access to Arnhem and Nijmegen during rush hour every 15 minutes.
Industry
The Dutch branch of the HJ Heinz Company , the largest production facility outside of America, is located near the train station . According to the TV documentary series How it's made, over 90 percent of this company's ketchup production in Europe is produced here.
