Jeffrey Leiwakabessy (born February 23, 1981 in Elst ) is a former Dutch football player who also has Indonesian citizenship. Leiwakabessy is the son of a Dutch woman and a Moluccan .

Career

He is from Elst in the Dutch province of Gelderland and started playing football at his hometown club Elistha Elst before joining the NEC Nijmegen in 1993 . There he went through the youth teams and finally came in 1998 in the first division team of the club. From 2001 he was there regular player on the left side of defense and also played for the Nijmegen in the UI and UEFA Cup .

When his contract with the Eredivisie Club expired, he moved to the first division promoted Alemannia Aachen in 2006 , where he signed a three-year contract. He was the only Aachen player to play all 34 games of the 2006/07 season , in which he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with the club . There, Leiwakabessy completed another 26 missions for Alemannia in 2007/08 .

For the 2008/09 season, Leiwakabessy's contract in Aachen was dissolved, whereupon he moved to the Cypriot first division club Anorthosis Famagusta . With this he also played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League . In 95 league appearances he scored three goals.

In January 2012 he moved back to his home country for free to the first division club VVV-Venlo , where he established himself again as a regular player. Until summer 2013 he was under contract in Venlo. After being without a club from June to October 2012, Leiwakabessy moved to his former club, the NEC Nijmegen.

Here he played in the Eredivisie until his retirement in 2017.
