The origins of the company go back to the Heinz, Noble & Company founded in Sharpsburg ( Pennsylvania ) by Henry John Heinz (son of German emigrants from Kallstadt ) in 1869 . “Heinz Tomato Ketchup”, the company's best-known product, was invented in 1876.

The advertising slogan of the 57 varieties , which has been in use since then, was first used in 1886 . The same year the company started selling its products in the UK . Two years later the company was renamed the HJ Heinz Company , which last sold several thousand products under more than 150 brands.

On February 14, 2013 it was announced that Heinz would be taken over by Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway and the financial investor 3G Capital . The purchase price was 28 billion US dollars . The merger with Kraft Foods was completed on July 2, 2015.

In October 2013, McDonald’s announced that it would end its forty-year relationship with Heinz. The reason was the takeover of the management by Bernardo Hees, who previously worked for rival Burger King .
