The national soccer team of the Netherlands Antilles was the national soccer team of the Caribbean archipelago, which as the Netherlands Antilles was an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands . It was organized by the Nederlands Antilliaanse Voetbal Unie (Football Union of the Netherlands Antilles). In the course of the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, the association was renamed Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou (Football Association Curaçao) in September 2010 and is now responsible for football on Curaçao . The FFK has announced that it will work closely with the Bonaire Island Football Association . The successor to the national soccer team of the Netherlands Antilles is the national soccer team of Curaçao . Sint Maarten , which also belonged to the Netherlands Antilles until October 2010 , had its own selection since the early 1990s .

history

From 1924 to 1948, the team from the Netherlands Antilles took part in international competitions under the name Curaçao . Until 1936 the Dutch Caribbean colony was called Curaçao en Onderhorigheden , until 1948 Gebiedsdeel Curaçao , then the six islands or parts of the islands of Curaçao, Aruba , Sint Maarten , Sint Eustatius , Saba and Bonaire as the Netherlands Antilles, a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, became a common team was organized by the joint football association at that time. This national team took part in 1957/58 as Curaçao in the World Cup qualification .

The joint national team was split into two teams when Aruba left the island group in 1986. A few years later, Sint Maarten also had its own team within CONCACAF. However, the Netherlands Antilles never managed to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup or a world championship. In 1963 and 1969, however, she reached third place in the CONCACAF championship, a tournament that was the forerunner of the Gold Cup.

As part of the qualification for the Soccer World Cup 2010 in South Africa, the team defeated the national team from Nicaragua in the first round of the CONCACAF zone . For the second round, Haiti was drawn as opponents. The first leg in Haiti ended 0-0, the second leg in the Netherlands Antilles 1-0 for Haiti.

On October 10, 2010, the Netherlands Antilles were dissolved and the five islands were each given their own status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands . At that time, the national team of the Netherlands Antilles took part in the qualification for the Caribbean Championship 2010 . She kept her name on during this time. In September 2010, however, the football association was renamed. In March 2011, FIFA changed its name for the national team of the Netherlands Antilles in Curaçao , with the abbreviation CUW replacing the ANT of the previous team.
