The Nicaraguan national soccer team is the national soccer team of the Central American state of Nicaragua . It is one of the most unsuccessful football teams in Central America. So far, the team has not yet managed to qualify for a soccer World Cup . The first qualification for the CONCACAF Gold Cup was achieved in 2009, for qualification the 5th place at the UNCAF Nations Cup 2009 was enough. Qualification was also successful in 2017, but all games in the group stage were lost.

World Cup qualification

As part of the qualification for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, the team met in the first round of the CONCACAF zone against the national team of the Netherlands Antilles , which was 21 places below Nicaragua in the FIFA world rankings . After Nicaragua had already lost all three previous encounters against the Netherlands Antilles, the two qualifying games in February 2008 were lost 1-0 at home in Diriamba and 2-0 away. Thus, the selection was eliminated in the first round.
