The Guatemalan national soccer team is the national soccer team of the Central American state of Guatemala .
So far, the team has not yet managed to qualify for the soccer World Cup . At the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup , the national team achieved their best result to date. At the tournament in the USA she came fourth behind Mexico , Brazil and the hosts .

After 1988 the senior national team stopped taking part in the Olympic Games and the qualifying games. An Olympic team has not yet qualified.
World Championship
- 1930 to 1954 - did not participate
- 1958 - In qualifying for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden , group 1 played Costa Rica and Curacao . After 3 sporting defeats and a game that was scored at the green table, you were eliminated from the bottom of the group without any points.
- 1962 - In qualifying for the 1962 World Cup in Chile , group 2 again met Costa Rica and Honduras . With a sporting defeat, 2 draws and again a game lost at the green table, you were eliminated from the bottom of the group.
- 1966 - did not take part
- 1970 - In qualifying for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico , after one win, two draws and one defeat behind Haiti and before Trinidad & Tobago, they had to give up the sails as second.
- 1974 - In qualifying for the 1974 World Cup in Germany , they beat El Salvador 1-0 twice in the first round . In the second and final round they were eliminated as group fifth behind Haiti , Trinidad & Tobago , Mexico and Honduras , but before the Netherlands Antilles with four draws and two defeats.
- 1978 - In qualifying for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina , El Salvador , Costa Rica and Panama played in the first round . After three wins, two draws and one defeat, you could qualify first for the second round. There they were eliminated with a win, a draw and three defeats, however, again in fifth place. This time behind Mexico , Haiti , El Salvador and Canada , but before Suriname .
- 1982 - In qualifying for the 1982 World Cup in Spain , they didn't even reach the final round, but were eliminated in the first round as third in the group against Honduras , El Salvador , Costa Rica and Panama .
- 1986 - In qualifying for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , they received a bye in the 1st round, but then retired in the 2nd round after two wins, one draw and one defeat behind Canada and before Haiti .
- 1990 - In qualifying for the 1990 World Cup in Italy , they beat Cuba (1: 0/1: 1) in the first round and Canada (1: 0/2: 3) in the second . In the final round you played against Costa Rica , the USA , Trinidad & Tobago and El Salvador . With one win, one draw and four defeats they were eliminated in fourth place before El Salvador .
- 1994 - In qualifying for the 1994 World Cup in the USA you had to play against Honduras in the first round and were eliminated 0-0 and 0-2.
- 1998 - In qualifying for the 1998 World Cup in France , Nicaragua played in the preliminary round and prevailed 1-0 and 2-1. In Group 1 of the semi-finals, you faced the USA , Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago . After two wins, two draws and two defeats, however, they were eliminated as third party.
- 2002 - In qualifying for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea , the draw was drawn in central zone 1 of the 1st round against El Salvador and Belize . As runners-up in the group you had to go to the interzone qualification, where you beat Haiti 4-0 and 3-1 . In the second round, the USA , Costa Rica and Barbados played in Group 3 . They finished this round with the same point and goal as Costa Rica in second and third respectively, but lost 2: 5 in a play-off game.
- 2006 - In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany , they met Suriname in the 2nd round and moved into the 3rd round 1: 1 and 3: 1. There you could qualify in a group with Costa Rica , Honduras and Canada as third in the group for the 4th round. In this one failed with 11 points by the USA , Mexico , Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago and left Panama clearly behind.
- 2010 - As part of qualifying for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, the team met St. Lucia in the second round of the CONCACAF zone . The first leg on June 14, 2008 in Guatemala City ended 6-0, the second leg took place on June 21 in Los Angeles ( USA ). Guatemala won 3-1 here. In the third round of qualifying, the Central Americans faced the USA , Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba . In the end, they finished 3rd and did not qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
- 2014 - In the qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil they met in the second round in Group E on Belize , St. Vincent and Grenada . After 6 wins from 6 games you qualified for the 3rd round. There they met in Group A against the USA , Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda and were eliminated with 10 points only because of the goal difference to Jamaica .
- 2018 - In qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia , the team met Bermuda in the second round in June 2015 and prevailed 0-0 and 1-0. In the 3rd round they defeated Antigua and Barbuda with 0: 1 and 2: 0, which means they moved into the 4th round. There the team played in Group C against the USA , Trinidad & Tobago and St. Vincent . With 10 points, however, you were eliminated as a third party.
