The UNCAF Nations Cup 2001 also served as qualification for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2002 . The first three teams qualified directly, the fourth-placed played two play-off games against the fourth-placed of the Caribbean Cup 2001 . There Panama failed against the Caribbean representative Cuba . The first leg was played on July 29 and the second leg on August 5, 2001.
