The CONCACAF Gold Cup 2013 was the 22nd game of the continental football championship for North Central America and the Caribbean and 12th under the name "Gold Cup" and took place from July 7th to 28th in the USA .

Twelve national teams took part in the tournament, initially in groups and then in a knockout system . The United States has been the sole host of the tournament since 1991, or in cooperation (1993 and 2003 with Mexico ).

The tournament winner USA played a play-off against the winner of the 2015 Gold Cup ( Mexico ) for participation in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia , which Mexico won after extra time.

qualification

The qualification for the Gold Cup was organized by the three regional associations of CONCACAF :

North America (NAFU Zone)

All three North America associations ( Canada , USA , Mexico ) were seeded for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and therefore did not have to play any qualifying games.

Central America ( UNCAF zone)

All seven UNCAF associations took part in the 2013 Central American Cup, which took place in January 2013 in San José , Costa Rica . The first five teams were qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The following could qualify:

Caribbean ( CFU zone)

A total of 25 teams had registered for the competition. Defending champions Jamaica and hosts Antigua and Barbuda were seeded for the finals without qualifying. The first round of qualification consisted of five groups of four teams each. The group winners and the four best runners-up qualified for the second round. The second round of qualification consisted of three groups of four teams each. For the second round, the national teams of Grenada, Guadeloupe and Cuba were already placed in second to fourth place in the 2010 Caribbean Championship. The group first and second qualified for the final round. Eight teams took part in the final round, of which these teams could qualify for the Gold Cup:

In the final round, the twelve participants formed three preliminary round groups with four teams each, of which the first two qualified for the quarter-finals. In addition, the two best third-placed finishers qualified. In the group stage, each team played against every other team in its group according to the championship mode, with three points awarded for a win and one point for a draw.
