Joe Benny Corona Crespín (* 9 July 1990 in Los Angeles , California ) is an US-American - Salvadoran soccer players . The midfielder has played for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer since 2019 .

Player career

Youth and college

Corona was born in Los Angeles , but spent part of his childhood in Tijuana , Mexico . He later relocated to San Diego , California , where he attended Sweetwater High School in National City . Here he played youth football at Nomads Academy. After graduating, he received a scholarship to San Diego State University , where he played college soccer for the San Diego State Aztecs. Here he scored three goals in 15 games in 2008.

In 2009 Corona moved to Mexico in the youth division of Club Tijuana.

Club Tijuana

Joe Corona made his debut for the first team in the Clausura 2010 in September 2010 , scoring his first goal. Overall, he was on the pitch three times this season. In the following season he was used in 39 games and has since been an integral part of the team.

National team

Corona's parents are from Mexico and El Salvador . Because of this, he had the opportunity to play for these two countries and the United States. He decided on the US national team . His first international match was on May 26, 2012 in a friendly against Scotland . With the national team he took part in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup and scored two goals there.

He was previously active in 2011 for a game in the Mexican U22 team. The team played against Chile in preparation for the 2011 Pan-American Games . A short time later, however, Corono joined the U-23 selection of the USA , for which he was on the field four times. This was possible because the game was not an official FIFA game for Mexico.
