Primera División (Mexico) 2009/10
The 2009/10 season began on Friday, July 24th, 2009 with the encounter between the newly formed Club Estudiantes Tecos (formerly Tecos de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara) and the Pachuca Club de Fútbol, which won the guests 2-3 in their favor decided. The last three games of the regular season were played on Sunday, April 25, 2010 between Toluca and Puebla (2-1), Indios and Pumas (2-0) and América and Santos (1-0).
The champions of the Apertura 2009 (corresponds to the first half of the season) became Monterrey, the team with the highest points of the entire season. Champion of the Torneo Bicentenario 2010 (second half of the season) was Toluca, the second best team of the season on points.
There were a total of 306 point games and 28 games in the Liguilla , the Spanish name for the play-offs , so a total of 334 games for the two championships.
In the regular round of points, each team had to play 34 games, 17 each in the Apertura and the Clausura; the second tournament this year was called Torneo Bicentenario on the occasion of the war of independence that began 200 years ago . Theoretically, up to 46 games were possible for a team if they had reached the finals in both the Apertura and the Clausura. However, such a constellation did not occur in the 2009/10 season. Most of the games (44) were played by Deportivo Toluca FC, who advanced to the semi-finals in the Apertura and won the Clausura.
The club Necaxa , relegated in the previous year , was replaced by the promoted Querétaro FC. At the end of the 2009/10 season, the CF Indios rose from the Primera División and will be replaced in the 2010/11 season by Club Necaxa, who won both tournaments in the Liga de Ascenso in 2009/10 and thus managed to get promoted again.
The point game round
In the total of 306 point games, 818 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 2.67 goals. 486 goals (average 1.59) were scored by the home teams and 332 goals (average 1.08) by the away teams.
The game with the most goals of the entire season was the match between América and Toluca, played on the 6th matchday of the Apertura , which took place on August 30, 2009 in the Aztec Stadium and ended with a 7-2 win for the home team. The other highest home victories of Apertura 2009 were between Morelia and Indios (4th matchday, August 16), América and Estudiantes Tecos (8th matchday, September 13) and Morelia and Querétaro (10th matchday, September 27) and all ended 5-0. There was also a 1: 4 in the Clásico Tapatío between Atlas and Chivas (16th matchday, 7 November).

The home and away tables
The Jaguares are the worst home team, but together with Morelia the away team with the highest points. They did not lose a single game among the top six teams in the league round and even won four of them (in Monterrey, Morelia, Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna), but could not win a single home game against the same opponents and lost four times. While they won seven times away, they could only win two games on their own pitch. One of them was the lackluster 1-0 success against bottom of the table CF Indios, the other was an impressive 4-0 (!) Against record champions Chivas Guadalajara.

The Liguillas
In the Liguillas (the Spanish name for the play-offs ) of Apertura (first half of the season) and Clausura (second half of the season), there were a total of 14 matches, each of which was played in the first and second leg. In the total of 28 Liguilla games, there were 16 home and 3 away wins and 9 draws. In Torneo Apertura 2009 there was an absolute dominance of the home teams, because nine home wins were compared to a single away win; which also came about in the last game, when Monterrey (after a 4: 3 in the first leg) also decided the second leg at Cruz Azul with 2: 1 in his favor. In the 2010 Torneo Bicentenario there were seven home wins and two away wins: each in the quarterfinals, Pachuca (after a 1-0 home win) won 2-1 in Monterrey and Morelia (after a 4-2) won 1-0 in Guadalajara.
Eight goals were scored in the highest-scoring matches of both tournaments: in the quarter-final first leg of Apertura between Puebla and Cruz Azul (4: 4) and in the semi-final second leg of Clausura (bicentenario) between Santos Laguna and Morelia (7: 1).
Of the 18 teams in the league round, 11 teams qualified for the Liguillas. Six teams were able to qualify once for the Liguilla and five teams were able to qualify twice. The most successful team was the second round champions Toluca, who had already reached the semi-finals in the preliminary round. The first round champion Monterrey, however, was eliminated in the second half of the quarter-finals. Apart from Toluca, only Morelia qualified twice for the semi-finals, but could not record a win in these games: in the Apertura 0-0 and 1-2 against Cruz Azul and in the Clausura 3: 3 and 1: 7 against Santos Laguna.
