Primera División (Mexico) 1960/61
The 1960/61 season was the 18th season of the 1943/44 introduced top Mexican professional football league . New to the league was the promoted CF Monterrey , who replaced CD Zamora , who had been relegated in the previous season .
particularities
Master was the CD Guadalajara , which was the first club in the history of the Mexican professional league to achieve a title hat trick. What was also unique in that season was that three teams from Guadalajara took the first three places in the final table. The CD Oro was runner-up and the CF Atlas came third. All three teams from Guadalajara were also very strong at home. Oro did not lose a single home game and won 10 of their 13 matches on their own territory. Master Chivas even won twelve home games, but suffered his only home defeat (2: 4) against CD Tampico , who otherwise never won an away game.
The season was extremely unusual for the later relegated Celaya FC . While he remained without a single home win after the first half of the season (two draws and four defeats), the team was still undefeated after their first six away games and had three wins and three draws abroad. On the last matchday of the preliminary round there was the first away defeat (1: 3 at CD Tampico ) and not a single point could be booked in the six away games of the second round. The first three home games of the second half of the season could be won (against León , Morelia and Toluca ), but because the remaining four home games only had two draws and defeats, it wasn't enough to keep them up in the end.
