Primera División (Mexico) 1982/83

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1982/83 season was the 40th regular championship round in Mexico since the introduction of the Primera División in the 1943/44 season.

Changes

Compared to the previous season , there were the following changes: The sporty relegated Club Deportivo Tampico was taken over by the oil workers' union and converted into Tampico-Madero FC. In order to keep him in the top division, the license of Club Atletas Campesinos was taken over, which instead had to leave the league - in exchange with the sporting climber CF Oaxtepec. Furthermore, Atlético Español got its original name back after eleven years and played again under the name Club Necaxa from this season.

Tournament mode

As already practiced in the previous season, the competition was divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each. Regardless of this, each team in the league continued to play against each other twice (in one home and one away game). At the end of the league round, the two best-placed teams in each group qualified for the final round, which, starting with the quarter-finals, was played in play-off mode.

Also in a final, the two teams that had the fewest points (30 each) faced each other during the entire season. In these finals, in which it was a question of remaining in the House of Lords, Atlético Morelia was able to prevail against the CD Zacatepec.

Semifinals

In the semifinals it came to the Súper Clásico del Fútbol Mexicano , in which the Club América was the clear favorite. After all, the Americanistas had completed the season as Súperlíder ( Mexican name for the leader of the table) with the impressive record of 61-15 points (14 points ahead of the second Atlante and 21 points ahead of Club Deportivo Guadalajara) and already both matches with the Arch-rivals in the league round each decided 2-0 in their favor. After the first leg, which the Americanistas decided 2-1 in their favor at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara , their participation in the finals was almost certain, as they were in their home Aztec stadium this season with an impressive record of 17 wins and 3 Undefeated draw. But in stoppage time in the first half, the team from Guadalajara took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from "Snoopy" Pérez and Demetrio Madero . When Samuel Rivas scored the 3-0 final score shortly before the end of the game, the nerves at Club America were blank and one of the most unpleasant tumults in the history of Mexican football developed on the field .

In this he could not accommodate the last shot in the goal, which his team lost the championship final 6: 7.
