Primera División (Mexico) 1987/88
The 1987/88 season was the 44th regular championship round in Mexico since the introduction of the Primera División in the 1943/44 season.
Changes and mode
In order to reduce the league to 20 participants again, there had been two relegated teams in the 1986/87 season , which was held with 21 teams, with Club León and Cobras Querétaro . The team of UAT Correcaminos , which was represented for the first time in the top Mexican division and belonged to the first division until the 1994/95 season , was added. Although she finished last in her first season in the first division, she would have been relegated again after just one year. However, because the CD Coyotes Neza , which has been in the top division for ten years, offered its license for sale, the Correcaminos were able to keep themselves in the top division by acquiring the same.
The competition was divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each. Regardless of this, each team in the league competed against each other twice (in one home and one away game). At the end of the league round, the top two teams in each group qualified for the final round, which was played -off .
