Liga Mayor 1948/49
The 1948/49 season was the sixth season of the Mexican professional football league, which at that time still operated under the name Liga Mayor .
particularities
With Club León , which had already won the championship in the preseason , there was a defending champion for the first time. At the end of the season, the Asociación Deportiva Orizabeña withdrew from the league for financial reasons.
The runner-up of the previous season, CD Oro , started with five wins and two draws in the league, but then declined and only ended up in twelfth place at the end of the season. He received his first defeat on November 21, 1948 in the city derby against CD Guadalajara (1: 3). For their part, Club Guadalajara got off to an even better start to the season and started the season with seven wins and one draw, before the first defeat against the third team from Guadalajara on December 6, 1948 : a 3-0 defeat against other city rivals Atlas .
Play with the most goals
Most goals were scored in the match between Marte and Asturias on February 24, 1949 (9: 3). The number of hits at España against Puebla (7: 4) on July 17, 1949 and in the 8: 2 matches between Asturias and America on June 26, 1949 and between runner-up Atlas and master León (!) on September 26, 1948. What is remarkable in the latter game is the fact that León was 2-0 up after just nine minutes. After it was 2-2 at the break, the Esmeraldas were literally overrun by the Zorros in the second half.
