Primera División (Mexico) 1984/85
The 1984/85 season was the 42nd regular championship round in Mexico since the introduction of the Primera División in the 1943/44 season.
The relegated from the previous season , Unión de Curtidores , was replaced by the promoted CD Zacatepec, who had to compete in two relegation games with Club Necaxa at the end of the season, drew the short straw and relegated back to the second division . It was also the final farewell to the Cañeros , who were one of the most successful Mexican club teams in the second half of the 1950s with two championship titles and two cup wins, from the upper house of football.
Furthermore, the CF Oaxtepec was replaced by the Ángeles de Puebla during the current season (after the first matchday) . The reason for this was the league's belated approval of a team change planned before the season. Because Oaxtepec played his only game away (0: 0 in the UAG Tecos in the Estadio Tres de Marzo of Zapopan in Guadalajara ), the team played all home games at Estadio Cuauhtemoc of Puebla and a single game more in Estadio Unidad Deportiva del IMSS of Oaxtepec in Morelos State .
As has been practiced for several years, the competition was divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each. Regardless of this, each team in the league continued to play against each other twice (in one home and one away game). At the end of the league round, the two best-placed teams in each group qualified for the final round, which, starting with the quarter-finals, was played in play-off mode.

1 This encounter, played on the first matchday, was the only match of the old CF Oaxtepec before they moved to Puebla the following week and from then on played under the name of the Ángeles.
2 The match between UANL Tigres and Club América on October 20, 1984 was abandoned in the 72nd minute of the game when the score was 0-0 because players who had been sent off refused to leave the field of play. The remaining 18 minutes were made up on January 8, 1985 and won 2-0 by the hosts.

final
After there was a Clásico Joven in the final of the 1971/72 season and a Clásico Chilango in the finals of the 1978/79 and 1980/81 seasons , this time the other two "heavyweights" of capital city football met in a Clásico Capitalino . After no winner could be determined in the first and second leg, there was no penalty shoot-out , as was usual in the previous rounds , but a third game was necessary, which was played on a neutral pitch at the Estadio La Corregidora in Santiago de Querétaro . This was won 3: 1 by Club America due to some wrong decisions by the referee and was the beginning of a bitter hostility between the fan groups of both clubs that has continued to this day.
