Primera División (Mexico) 1961/62
The 1961/62 season was the 19th season of the highest Mexican professional football league introduced in 1943/44 .
particularities
With the rise of CD Nacional , which replaces Celaya FC , who was relegated in the previous season, the city of Guadalajara is represented for the first time with four clubs in the Mexican premier league. Nacional is playing a remarkable season for a newcomer and ends up in tenth place and thus ahead of the league's established city rivals CF Atlas , who finished the season in eleventh place. The CD Guadalajara becomes champion for the fourth time in a row , which is a record in the Mexican league that still exists today. In addition, the championship team has only conceded 17 goals in the entire season and has not conceded a goal in 17 matches.
While the three city rivals CD Guadalajara, CF Atlas and CD Oro are joint owners of the Estadio Jalisco , which opened in early 1960 and where they play all home games, the CD Nacional only enjoys guest rights there and also plays nine of its 13 home games there. The other four home games are played in Parque Felipe Martínez Sandoval , which is owned by the CD Oro. In the 1930s, the CD Nacional celebrated five championship titles in the Liga de Occidente in this stadium , making it the most successful team in the city of that decade. This time he remained unbeaten in Parque Sandoval and defeated Atlético Morelia (2-0) and CF Monterrey (4-2) in the preliminary round , while he drew twice against CD Tampico (0-0) and CF Atlas in the second half of the season (2: 2) plays.
