Primera División (Mexico) 1954/55
The 1954/55 season was the twelfth season of the 1943/44 introduced top Mexican professional football league . The soon-to-be serial champion CD Guadalajara , who won seven titles between 1956/57 and 1964/65, could have won his first championship this season. He blocked this opportunity, among other things, by a 0-1 home defeat against relegated Marte on the third last match day. Instead, the CD Zacatepec , which had its best phase in the second half of the 1950s and won the championship and the cup competition twice, celebrated its first success.
Moved up and down
At the end of the previous season, the CD Irapuato rose to the top division and replaced the CF Atlas , who had been relegated from the previous year and who managed to get up again in the 1955/56 season. The big sensation of the 1954/55 season was the relegation of the previous year's champion CD Marte to the Segunda División . The Marcianos played only two years in the second division and got out of professional football for a long time at the end of the 1956/57 season .
