Sundarnagar ( Hindi सुंदरनगर Sundarnagar ; also Sundernagar or Sundar Nagar ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh .
Sundarnagar is located in Mandi District , 20 km south of the district capital, Mandi . In the 2011 census, the population was 24,344. Sundarnagar lies at an altitude of 920 m in the Upper Himalayas . The Suketi Khad River flows north past Sundarnagar and flows into the Beas at Mandi . At Sundarnagar is the 50 hectare reservoir Sundarnagar Lake .
The city is on the NH 21 highway , which connects Sundarnagar with Mandi in the north and with Bilaspur in the south.
Sundarnagar used to be the capital of the princely state of Suket .
