particularities

The 1964/65 season was the last season of the great time of Campeonísimo Guadalajara , the "serial champion" Chivas , in which the club from Mexico's second largest city Guadalajara won its seventh championship title within nine seasons. Since then only four titles have been added.

At the same time it was the first season of Cruz Azul in the first division. At that time the club, which moved to Mexico City in 1971 , was still based in the small industrial town of Jasso in the state of Hidalgo and played its home games in the 17,000-seat Estadio 10 de diciembre . In that stadium encounters with capital clubs have also been the first time UNAM and: (1 win on June 28, 1964 2) América (1: 2 defeat on August 30, 1964) later than discharged Clásico Chilango or Clásico Joven to the most important football derbies in Mexico .

In the 1964/65 season, half of all clubs came from the two largest cities in the country, Mexico City (América, Atlante, Necaxa, UNAM) and Guadalajara (Atlas, Chivas, Nacional, Oro). This dominance shifted with the relegation of Nacional at the end of the season and the rise of Club de Fútbol Petroleros from Ciudad Madero .
