Primera División (Mexico) 1958/59
The 1958/59 season was the 16th season of the highest Mexican professional football league introduced in 1943/44 . New in the league was the promoted Celaya FC , who replaced CD Tampico , who had been relegated in the previous season .

In this season, the CD Guadalajara won its second championship title after 1956/57 and laid the foundation for a series of four championship titles in a row that is still unique in the Mexican league. But it didn't look like that at the beginning of the season. The team started with a 2-4 home defeat against CD Zamora and had a balanced record after eight match days (with three wins and losses and two draws). But then Guadalajara turned up, won five times in a row (including a 2-0 home win against eventual runners-up León FC and a 4-1 away win at third in the final table, CD Zacatepec ) and only lost one game (this one, however, clearly with 0: 4 in the second half of the worst pursuer León).
Before the last game day of the 1958/59 season, a decision had not been made in either the championship or relegation battle. The runner-up León, who won his last home game against Necaxa 4-2, had to hope for a mistake by the leaders Guadalajara. He didn't do him a favor and beat Atlante 4-0.
The relegation battle was more dramatic, where Atlético Morelia (12th place with 19 points) received the penultimate CD Cuautla (with 18 points). The bottom of the league was Celaya FC with 17 points, but with a slightly better goal difference to Cuautla, so Cuautla would not have been saved even if they had drawn. In a direct comparison of the relegation candidates Morelia and Cuautla, Morelia prevailed 2-0 and climbed past the " old rivals " Necaxa (2: 4 in León) and Atlante (0: 4 in Guadalajara) to tenth place Celaya saved himself with a 3-1 win at CD Oro and sent Cuautla to the second division.
