The Club Deportivo Zamora was a Mexican sports club, whose football team in the late 1950s in the Primera División de México played.

history

When a nationwide second division was first launched in Mexico in 1950 , CD Zamora from the city of the same name in the state of Michoacán, founded in the same year, was one of the founding members. When the FMF decided to increase the first division from 12 to 14 teams in the future, a special tournament was organized in which the two worst teams in the first division and the teams in positions two to four of the second division were allowed to participate in order to win the first division participants for the 1955/56 season. Zamora finished second in this qualifying round and made the leap into the football championship. The fact that this promotion came at least a year or two too early for the team is made clear by the downright devastating statistics: in a total of 26 games Zamora only managed to win two times, but lost 14 times.

But the direct relegation after only one year of membership in the first division was followed just as quickly and confidently by the immediate return to the Primera División in the summer of 1957. At the end of its second first division season in 1957/58, the now more mature team took a remarkable seventh place and had an almost balanced record to show: nine wins were compared to ten defeats. But that was the climax of the club. The 1958/59 season ended with tenth place and in 1959/60 the team fell back to last place, with a total of only four wins and 18 defeats.

Later, the team from Zamora knocked twice on the gate to the first division, but failed in both cases: At the end of the 1963/64 season, they were clearly defeated in two promotion games with a total of 1: 7 against the up-and-coming Cruz Azul , which has been since then Promotion to an integral part of the first division counts. 19 years later it should be much closer when Zamora lost the two playoffs for promotion with an aggregate result of 0-1 against Unión de Curtidores (1982/83).

When the nationwide third division was introduced in the 1967/68 season , Zamora was also one of the founding members and won this league ten years later (1977/78).
