The Liga Amateur de Jalisco , also known as the Liga de Occidente , was a football tournament between clubs from the Mexican state of Jalisco that was played between 1908 and 1943 . The league was widely considered to be the second strongest soccer competition in Mexico before professional soccer was introduced. At that time, only the capital league , known as Primera Fuerza , enjoyed a higher status . With the introduction of the Primera División in 1943, the Liga Amateur de Jalisco was discontinued.
The problem with the top Guadalajara clubs was that football in Jalisco was indeed an amateur event, while the capital was pouring money and other perks. As a result, the clubs from Jalisco repeatedly lost their best players to the wealthy teams from the capital. In particular, the Marte Army Club and the Necaxa Club, financed by the energy supply company Luz y Fuerza , stood out in this regard and brought many top players from Jalisco to the capital to enrich their teams. This weakened the best clubs from Guadalajara again and again decisively.
