Atlético Latino was a club in the pioneering days of Mexican football . He was based in Guadalajara , the capital of the state of Jalisco . His football team played in the Liga Amateur de Jalisco , which existed from its creation in 1908 until the introduction of professional football in 1943.
history
Atlético Latino was founded on September 16, 1916 in the north of the city of Guadalajara by workers in the clothing and shoe industry.
In 1919, the club's footballers were included in the Liga Amateur de Jalisco , where they first competed in the second division. In 1925 they were promoted to the first division.
The footballers had their strongest phase in the 1930s and their greatest success was the runner-up in Jalisco in the 1932/33 season.
One of the outstanding players of the 1940s was goalkeeper Federico "Potrillo" Villavicencio, who emerged from the club's youth department , was also appointed to the Jalisco team and later was under contract with Atlas , Atlante and Oro .
As early as the 1930s, the club's youth department produced a talent in striker Luis Reyes Ayala who was also appointed to the Selección Jalisco and after the introduction of professional football for the CD Guadalajara in the Primera División went on the hunt for goals.
In the 1950s, given weak leadership and the professionalization of football, the club got into a serious crisis for the first time, which almost led to its dissolution. What could still be averted back then happened later, because the association no longer exists.
