Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional
The Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA) is the political "secretariat (of the government) for national defense" in Mexico , comparable to a Ministry of Defense .
It was founded in 1884 as the "War and Navy Secretariat" ( Spanish : Secretaría de Guerra y Marina ) and has its seat in Mexico City . In 1937 it was renamed Secretaría de la Defensa . Since then, the Secretaría de Marina (SEMAR) has been responsible for the Mexican Navy, the Armada de México .
The office is in Mexico City . There are the following areas, the “Undersecretariat for National Defense” (Spanish: Subsecretaría de la Defensa Nacional ), the “ General Staff for National Defense” (Spanish: Estado Mayor de la Defensa Nacional ) and the organs for martial law, the so-called Órganos del Fuero de Guerra .
