Secretaría de Recursos Hidráulicos
SRH (1947-1976) |
The Secretaría de Recursos Hidráulicos (SRH) was a political "Secretariat (government) for water management" in Mexico founded in 1947 under President Miguel Alemán Valdés . As the government secretariat, it was comparable to a ministry at state government level.
The task of the SRH was to coordinate and monitor politics with regard to the construction of weirs and dams as well as to coordinate and monitor politics in the federal districts with regard to the development of irrigated agriculture. The construction of dams and weirs was one of the main goals of the regime at the time.
In 1976, President José López Portillo dissolved the secretariat and handed over the responsibilities to the Secretariat for Agriculture and Livestock , the Secretaría de Agricultura y Ganadería, which from then on was called Secretaría de Agricultura y Recursos Hidraúlicos .
The central building of the former SRH in Mexico City was built between 1950 and 1952 according to the designs of the architects Enrique del Moral and Mario Pani .
