Secretaría de Seguridad Pública
The Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) was the political secretariat (government) for public security in Mexico . As the government secretariat, it was comparable to a ministry at the highest government level of a state.
The authority was founded in 2000 and was replaced on January 3, 2013 by the Comision Nacional de Seguridad .
Mexico was one of the states in which the area of internal security is carried out by a separate government body at ministerial level. The usual other duties of an interior ministry for many government systems are performed in Mexico by the Secretaría de Gobernación (SEGOB).
The SSP was finally divided into two sub-secretariats ( Subsecretarías ), one for "Political Crime" ( Política Criminal ) and one for " Prevention and Citizen Participation " ( Prevención y Participación Ciudadana ), as well as a department for " Transparency , Innovation and Quality " ( Transparencia , Innovación y Calidad ). The SSP was also responsible for the Policía Federal (Federal Police, formerly Policía Federal Preventiva ) and the Executive Secretariat of the National Council for Public Security ( Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública - SE-SNSP).
