Abelardo Luján Rodríguez (born May 12, 1889 in San José de Guaymas , † February 3, 1967 in La Jolla ) was President of Mexico from September 4, 1932 to November 30, 1934 .

Rodríguez came from a poor family in Sonora . He fought in the Mexican Revolution in 1913 and was quickly promoted. In 1916 he became a colonel and in 1921 he was designated military commander of Baja California . From 1923 to 1929 he was the head of this state. In 1932, under Pascual Ortiz Rubio, he became Minister of War and the Navy and Minister of Economics in the government.

On September 4, Plutarco led Elías Calles Ortiz to resign and Abelardo Luján Rodríguez was instead President-elect for the remainder of the period. During his tenure, he set up various financial institutions and reintroduced socialist education to Mexico. He also extended the presidential term from four to six years and introduced minimum wages .

His tenure ended on November 30, 1934 and he retired from politics for some time. In 1943 he came back and was elected governor of Sonora. During this time he paid special attention to education. For example, he founded the University of Sonora. In 1948 he finally resigned for health reasons. He died in the USA .
