Ascenso MX
The Liga de Ascenso has been the second highest division in Mexican club football since the 2009/10 season . In this capacity she replaces the Primera División 'A' , which had taken this role in the 15 seasons between 1994/95 and 2008/09.
The overall champion of the Liga de Ascenso is eligible for promotion to the Primera División , while the bottom of the table must relegate to the Segunda División .

The previous champions of the Liga de Ascenso (Ascenso MX)
Two championships are played per season and two separate winners (Apertura and Clausura) are determined. If a team wins both tournaments (as Necaxa managed to do in the opening season), it is automatically overall winner and entitled to promotion to the Primera División . If there are two different winners, they will play the promotion finals in a return match at the end of the season.
season | Master / overall winner | Master Apertura | Master Clausura |
---|---|---|---|
2009/10 | Necaxa | Necaxa | Necaxa |
2010/11 | Tijuana | Tijuana | Irapuato |
2011/12 | Leon | Correcaminos | Leon |
2012/13 | La Piedad | La Piedad | Neza |
2013/14 | Leones Negros | Leones Negros | Estudiantes Tecos |
2014/15 | Dorados | Necaxa | Dorados |
2015/16 | Necaxa | Juarez | Necaxa |
2016/17 | Lobos BUAP | Dorados | Lobos BUAP |
2017/18 | Cafetaleros Tapachula 1 | Alebrijes Oaxaca | Cafetaleros Tapachula |
2018/19 | Atlético San Luis | Atlético San Luis | Atlético San Luis |
1 Because the Cafetaleros de Tapachula are not a certified team with promotion rights to Liga MX , there will be no promoted or relegated team in 2018 (the actual relegated Lobos BUAP thus remains in the top division).
