The Mexican state of Puebla [ ˈpweβla ], officially Free and Sovereign State of Puebla (Spanish Estado Libre y Soberano de Puebla ) is just east of the twin volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl . It borders on Guerrero and Oaxaca to the south, Veracruz to the east and north and Hidalgo , Tlaxcala , México and Morelos to the west . It has an area of 34,306 km² and approx. 5.8 million inhabitants. The capital is Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza (also short Puebla ).
Administrative division
Puebla is divided into 217 Municipios . The largest cities are Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza , Tehuacán , Cholula de Rivadavia , Atlixco , Amozoc de Mota , San Martín Texmelucan de Labastida , Teziutlán , Huauchinango and San Bernardino Tlaxcalancingo .

economy
Economically, Puebla is an extraordinarily strong region. Volkswagen de México has had a production facility there since 1964 with around 20,000 employees. The starting point was the production of the Beetle for the Mexican market. In the meantime, VW is producing vehicles there for the entire American market. Audi started production of the Q5 for the world market (excluding China) in San José Chiapa in 2017 .
Other important branches of the economy are the textile industry and tourism.
Worth seeing
The charming old town of Puebla is a World Heritage Site and attracts visitors from all over the world.
In the state of Puebla there is also the great pyramid of Cholula (Tlachihualtepetl) , which is the largest pyramid in the world with a volume of 4.45 million cubic meters (base area 425 by 425 m, height 66 m).
