Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl [ sju ðað nesawalˈkoʝotɬ ] (called "Neza" for short by the locals), a suburb of Mexico City , is the poorest metropolis in Mexico . According to official census, it is the seventh largest city in the country and the second largest in the state of México .
Infrastructure
Nezahualcóyotl borders the federal district of Mexico City as well as the capital's airport . The city is characterized by spontaneous hut buildings, some of which were built by the residents. The lack of social meeting places such as marketplaces leads to high social tension in the city. In addition, the massive air pollution leads to major problems. A similar situation in the metropolitan area of Mexico City applies to the city of Ecatepec de Morelos .
history
It was named after the important Aztec king Nezahualcóyotl of Texcoco and is built on the dry Texcoco Lake .
It has been a separate political municipality since 1962: In addition to Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, the municipality Nezahualcóyotl also includes a few other small suburbs of Mexico City.
During the 1986 World Cup , three preliminary round matches were played in what was then the Estadio Neza 86 stadium on the grounds of the Universidad Tecnológica de Nezahualcóyotl (UTN).
After the murder of Jaime Serrano , a member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) in the state of Mexico , and rumors of impending fighting between drug cartels , around 700 soldiers and federal police officers moved into 45 neighborhoods on September 20, 2012 .
