Humberto González (born March 25, 1966 in Nezahualcóyotl , Mexico), also known as Chiquita González , is a retired Mexican light flyweight boxer.

Professional career

González began his professional career in 1984. He was southpaw, but characteristic of his boxing style was the frequent changing of the display , which should effectively prevent his opponents from adjusting to his boxing style. He was next to Marvin Hagler one of the most famous "switch hitters".

On June 25, 1989, he was in his 25th professional fight by winning points over the Korean Yul Woo Lee in his home country WBC World Champion. He then defended the title five times, especially against the well-known Korean Jung Koo Chang (is described by Ring Magazine as one of the historically best light flyweights), again away from home and on points.

In 1990, however, he lost the belt by knocking out in the sixth round to the Philippine southpaw Rolando Pasqua, who had a knockout rate of only 30%.

Pasqua quickly lost the title to González's compatriot Melchor Cob Castro, from whom González was able to regain the belt in June 1991.

After four title defenses, the long-awaited unification battle with IBF World Champion Michael Carbajal took place on March 13, 1993 . González get two knockdowns, but he still lost the fight by knockout in the seventh round.

However, González was able to win the rematch in February 1994 with a counter-strategy on points never before seen with him. He also won his third encounter with Carbajal.

In 1995 he lost his title to the one-dimensional Thai Saman Sorjaturong by KO and ended his career after this defeat.

He was considered exceptionally powerful and was therefore often compared with Mike Tyson in the course of his career by " Ring Magazine " and its sister publications , although he was rarely able to prove this in his major fights. He didn't win a single big fight by knockout.

In 2006 González was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
