Victoria de Durango or just Durango is the capital of the Mexican state of Durango and the municipality of Durango and the seat of an archbishopric, with a population of around 520,000 . The current name is made up of the name of the first Mexican President Guadalupe Victoria and the name of the province. The historic center of the city in 2010 as part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro by the UNESCO as a world heritage site was classified.
Location and climate
The city of Durango is located in the wooded Valle de Guadiana about 875 km (driving distance) northwest of Mexico City at an altitude of about 1880 m . The climate is dry and warm ("steppe climate"); Rain (approx. 465 mm / year) falls almost exclusively in the summer half-year.

history
Durango was founded by the Conquistador Francisco de Ibarra on July 8, 1563 as Villa de Durango and named after the Basque city of the same name .
