The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Durango ( lat. : Archidioecesis durangensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Durango ) is one in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Durango .

history

The Archdiocese of Durango was established on September 28, 1620 by Pope Paul V from territory of the Diocese of Guadalajara as the Diocese of Durango . On May 7, 1779, the Diocese of Durango gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Sonora . Further assignments took place on July 18, 1826 to found the diocese of Saint Louis and in 1850 to found the Vicariate Apostolic New Mexico . The Diocese of Durango gave on June 23, 1891 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Chihuahua .

On June 23, 1891, the Diocese of Durango by Pope Leo XIII. raised to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Durango announced on 22 November, 1958 parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution hominum Qui erected diocese Mazatlan from. Further territorial concessions were made on 13 January 1962 on the establishment of the territorial prelate Jesús María del Nayar and on 10 June 1968 Foundation of the Apostolic Constitution Non habentibus established territorial prelate El Salto . On November 25, 2008, the Archdiocese of Durango gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Gómez Palacio .
