The Archdiocese of Toluca ( lat. : Archidioecesis Tolucensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Toluca ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Toluca .
history
The diocese of Toluca was founded on June 4, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. built with the Apostolic Constitution Si tam amplo from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Mexico City and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On 27 October 1964, the Diocese of Toluca were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution Populo Dei erected Diocese of Ciudad Altamirano from. Further assignments of territory took place on November 3, 1984 to establish the diocese of Atlacomulco, established with the Apostolic Constitution Quandoquidem ad plenius , and on November 26, 2009 to establish the diocese of Tenancingo .
On September 28, 2019, Pope Francis elevated the diocese of Toluca to the rank of archbishopric and metropolitan seat . He appointed the previous bishop Francisco Javier Chavolla Ramos as the first archbishop and subordinated the dioceses of Atlacomulco, Cuernavaca and Tenancingo, which previously belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Mexico City, as suffragans to the Archdiocese of Toluca .
