The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Morelia ( lat. : Archidioecesis Moreliensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Morelia ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Morelia .

history

The Archdiocese of Morelia was founded on August 11, 1536 by Pope Paul III. established with the papal bull Illius fulciti praesidio from cession of territory of the diocese of Mexico City as the diocese of Michoacán and subordinated to the archbishopric of Seville as a suffragan . On February 12, 1546, the Diocese of Michoacán was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico City as a suffragan. The Diocese of Michoacán gave up on July 13, 1548 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Guadalajara . Further assignments were made on December 15, 1777 to found the diocese of Linares o Nueva León and on August 31, 1854 to found the diocese of San Luis Potosí . On January 26, 1863, the Diocese of Michoacán gave up parts of its territory to establish the Dioceses of León , Querétaro and Zamora .

The Diocese of Michoacán was on January 26, 1863 by Pope Pius IX. raised to the archbishopric with the papal bull Catholicae Romanae Ecclesiae . On March 16, 1863, the Archdiocese of Michoacán gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Chilapa . Another assignment of territory took place on July 26, 1913 to establish the diocese of Tacámbaro . The Archdiocese of Michoacán was renamed the Archdiocese of Morelia on November 22, 1924 . On 13 October 1973, the Archdiocese of Morelia were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution scribae illi Evangelico erected Diocese of Celaya from. Another area assignment took place on 3 January 2004 to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution Venerabiles Fratres erected Diocese of Irapuato .
