The diocese of Chilpancingo-Chilapa ( Latin Dioecesis Chilpancingensis-Chilapensis , Spanish Diócesis de Chilpancingo-Chilapa ) belongs with the dioceses of Ciudad Altamirano and Tlapa to the Roman Catholic church province of Acapulco in the Mexican state of Guerrero .
It was established on March 16, 1863 as the diocese of Chilapa from areas of the dioceses of the Archdiocese of Michoacán , the Archdiocese of Mexico and the Diocese of Tlaxcala . On March 18, 1958, the Diocese of Acapulco was spun off from the area of the diocese. Further areas were assigned to the newly founded diocese Ciudad Altamirano on October 27, 1964. The diocese has had its current name since October 20, 1989. Once again there was a loss of territory on January 4, 1992, when the diocese of Tlapa was founded.
