The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tijuana ( Latin Archidioecesis Tigiuanaënsis , Spanish Arquidiócesis de Tijuana ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Tijuana .

history

The Archdiocese of Tijuana was founded on January 20, 1874 by Pope Pius IX. Established from cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Mexico City as the Apostolic Vicariate of Baja California . On April 13, 1957, was Apostolic Vicariate of Baja California parts of its territory establishing the with the Apostolic Constitution Qui arcana Dei erected the Apostolic Prefecture of La Paz en la Baja California Sur from. The Apostolic Vicariate of Baja California was on 13 July 1957 by the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith with the decree Cum propter erectionem in apostolic vicariate Tijuana renamed.

On July 13, 1963, the Vicariate Apostolic Tijuana by Pope Paul VI. elevated to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Pro Apostolico munere and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Hermosillo as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicana natio .
