Rafael Romo Muñoz

Rafael Romo Muñoz (born November 22, 1940 in Torreón , Mexico ) is a Mexican clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Tijuana .

Life

Rafael Romo Muñoz received the sacrament of ordination in Rome on November 28, 1965 . He became a spiritual director at the Torréon Seminary in 1969. From 1973 to 1977 he studied moral theology in Rome, which he completed with a doctorate. Until 1993 he was rector of the Torréon seminary.

On 13 January 1996 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishop of Tijuana . The Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Girolamo Prigione , donated him episcopal ordination on February 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Yucatán , Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzarán , and the Bishop of Torreón , Luis Morales Reyes . On November 25, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . with the elevation of the diocese to the archbishopric to the first archbishop of Tijuana.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on November 16, 2016.
