The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Yucatán ( lat. : Archidioecesis yucatanensis ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic diocese based in Mérida .

history

San Ildefonso Cathedral

Today's Archdiocese was established on November 19, 1561 by Pope Pius IV as the Diocese of Yucatán (Mérida) and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mexico as a suffragan . The first bishop was the Franciscan Francisco del Toral .

On November 11, 1906, the diocese was raised to an archdiocese by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Qum Rei Sacrae . The first archbishop was Martín Tritschler y Córdoba .
