Archdiocese of Guadalajara
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Guadalajara ( lat. : Archidioecesis Guadalaiarensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Guadalajara ) is in Mexico located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco .
history
The diocese was founded on July 13, 1548 by Pope Paul III. built. The diocese Durango was created in 1620 by assignment of territory . After Mexican independence , the diocese of Guadalajara was on January 26, 1863 by Pope Pius IX. raised to the archdiocese. In the following years, the dioceses of Zacatecas (1863), Colima (1861), Tepic (1891), Aguascalientes (1899), Autlán (1961), the territorial prelature of Jesús María del Nayar (1962) and the diocese of Ciudad Guzmán were created through further territorial assignments and finally San Juan de los Lagos (1972).
